Our Haitian Promise
Third Parish Team Headed for Haiti
February 10-19, 2003On Saturday, February 8 at the
4:30 Mass, the Saint Elizabeth Seton community will offer blessings and
good wishes to ten fellow parishioners as they prepare to fly to
Port-au-Prince, Haiti to begin a ten day cultural immersion trip. Team
Leaders Al Dornan and Cindy Moeckel, will be returning to a place that
changed their lives. For parish members Julia Campagna, Elizabeth and
Doug Delehanty, Mary Keane, Bob Manzi, Peter Mihaly, Barbara Suarez and
Alex Szilagyi, it will be a chance to learn about the needs of the
Haitian people. The visit will include time in orphanages, hospitals,
and an overnight stay at the parish of Saint Ann.
Saint Ann is a vibrant,
worshipping community of about 3,000 people. Last year's team was
welcomed by this poor, but faith-filled parish as the first step toward
linking our two communities. On December 1, 2002, Saint Elizabeth Seton
parish was formally "twinned" with Saint Ann's. Twinning means our
parishes will be mutually supportive through prayer, cultural exchange,
social action and resource assistance. To nurture this relationship
there will be regular visits to Saint Ann's and an invitation to their
pastor to spend time in Rocky Hill. In addition to helping the people of
Saint Ann parish, Saint Elizabeth Seton will continue to support
orphanages, feeding programs and other Haitian charitable groups.
These eleven parishioners
travel to Haiti bringing the generous prayers and gifts of the our
entire community. We invite you to offer your spiritual support at the
Commissioning Mass on February 8 and throughout their journey.
2003 Haiti Ministry
Team
Although
one group has just returned, planning has already begun for another
group to go to Haiti for the 10 day "immersion experience" in 2003. Jack
Tomaisello will be the group leader next year. The tentative dates are
February 10-19, 2003. The second week is the school vacation in most
towns. Anyone who is interested is asked to write a short letter
indicating your interest and submit it to the Office by June 1st.
It seems that already we have more than enough inquiries to fill a
group, so if indeed people are interested, we may send two groups over
the course of the next year. Questions and concerns can be discussed
with Jack, Jeff Cantin or Barbara Wysocki.
On
February 10, 2003, another group will travel
to Haiti to visit hospitals, orphanages and spend time
at Saint Ann’s, our parish twinning partner. Please pray for our 11
team members as they prepare for the trip:
