Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness, come into his presence with singing.
Psalm 100:1-2

Singing in Church -

A congregation of spiritual people praying and singing to our Creator together!  That is one of our liturgical goals.  Singing is not just for those who sing in the choir but for ALL the church!
Perfection is not the goal
!

God did not give us bad voices, no matter what that teacher, parent, spouse or  offspring or even YOU may have told you.  Discover the wonderful gift you've been  given - your voice!!  Open the hymnals, take a healthy, deep breath and let it happen.  If you can shout at a game, you can sing!  If you are indeed totally reluctant to sing, open your hymnals anyway to read and pray the text.  The music is chosen to support the scripture readings for each weekend, our Christian commitment to social justice and/or our faith in God.  You also help encourage our youth to participate by example!

The following are the usual, but inadequate, reasons NOT to sing...   I am tone deaf.  (A rare occurrence!)  notes 025
I don't like the music choices.  (They might grow on you!)
 notes 025  I've been told that I have a bad voice.  (Don't
 believe it!)
notes 025  It is not "cool" to sing in public.  (Don't believe it!!)  notes 025  This music is too high!  Do they expect me to sing like those sopranos?  notes 025  I don't read music.  (At least read the text!)

A new season for Music Ministry begins for St. Elizabeth Seton Church in September 2007.
Here are some of the ways in which you can participate:

Youth Choir:  Registration for boys and girls in grades 2 on will begin in the month of September.  Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, October 4 from 4:30 to 5:30.  This time was chosen since families coming from towns like Glastonbury and Farmington need adequate after school traveling time.  A commitment to weekly rehearsals is required; there are weeks off built into the schedule.  These young singers learn about our faith through participation in music ministry at mass as well as singing and music reading skills.

Instrumentalists:  Guitar, strings, brass, woodwind, hand chimes - these add so much to our liturgies.  Adults and youth are welcome.  Watch for bulletin invitations.
High School / College String Ensemble:  This small group plays occasionally for liturgies.
Rehearsals are occasional and at times convenient for the players.

Hand Chimes:  An adult group that rehearses on a weekly basis in preparation
for masses during holidays and eventually at regular mass.  There are weeks off
built into the schedule.  Watch the bulletin for registration and rehearsal times.

Singers:  Parishioners interested in singing at special liturgies (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, Pentecost, etc) and learning vocal skills can sign up during the year.  Watch for invitations in our parish bulletin.

If you have an interest in joining any of these choirs, speak to Music Director, Elizabeth V. Husmer or email to ElizabethHusmer@StESetonChurch.org
